Web Publishing Intern

Position is available immediately. The Web Publishing Intern will assist in the design, build, configuration, maintenance, and user support for Columbia College websites and web applications. The Web Publishing Intern will sharpen web design and front-end coding skills, develop a deeper understanding of web publishing systems, and gain experience working in a team office environment. More advanced CCIT interns will have the opportunity to develop project management skills under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Web Design.

Web Publishing Interns may choose to specialize in either web design or web development depending on their interests and skill level. Design specialists will help fashion the user experience of websites and web applications. Development specialists will focus on the development of tools for web publishing and content management.

Previous interns have made significant contributions to many of our Highlighted Solutions.

For a Web Design Specialization

Qualified applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic graphic design principles
  • Demonstrated ability to hand-code HTML and CSS
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
  • Ability to formulate creative solutions to technical issues and communication challenges
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks and projects
  • Clear written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Good work ethic and motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment

Any of the following bonus skills are great but not required:

  • Experience with server-parsed scripting language such as PHP
  • Experience with other Adobe Creative Suite applications
  • Familiarity with Javascript (AJAX/jQuery)
  • Experience with an open-source Web Content Management System
  • Content editing skills and knowledge of common editorial style

For an Web Development Specialization

Qualified applicants should possess the following skills:

  • Demonstrated HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills
  • Experience with server-parsed scripting language such as PHP
  • Experience with Unix
  • Experience with a version control system
  • Ability to formulate creative solutions to technical issues and communication challenges
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned tasks and projects
  • Clear written, verbal, and visual communication skills
  • Good work ethic and motivated with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment

Compensation and Commitment

The Web Publishing summer internship pays $19.75/hour, which includes a summer housing subsidy. The position is a minimum six month commitment with a preferred one year commitment. During the academic year, the internship pays $14/hour.
